weekly wisdom: seize the day

Saturday evening was gloomy so it was perfect for a movie night. We watched Dead Poets Society, Leo’s pick. This by far is one of my favorite films, no matter how many times I have seen it. It still gets me. I love these words from Henry David Thoreau that was the opening line for the Poets meetings:

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” HDT

The meaning of Carpe Diem has taken a whole new level for us as we fight Leo’s right now unknown disease that is slowly deteriorating his mind and body. What does it mean to Seize the Day? If you asked me a year, or even 4 months ago, I would say something like this, “enjoy, make most of today, planning for a better future” Today, I tell you this is no longer true for me.

Today I say seize the day because today is all we have. Only the foolish live for tomorrow. SAVOR EVERY SMELL, THOUGHT, TASTE, INTERACTION, TOUCH, SMELL, the GOOD, the BAD – TAKE IT ALL IN.

A new season is upon us. How will you seize today?
